AIR FILTER ELEMENTS
innovative filter designs

  Standard Feature and benefits

Far-reaching development in electronics and extensive technology to meet increasing safety and comfort requirements, as well as developments in engine design have resulted in a constant reduction in space for installation. This means less space for air filters. Modern air filter systems must therefore adapt to new circumstances.

MANN-FILTER is developing innovative air filters which fit the installation location exactly in form and function. Air filters do not always need to be rectangular.

Where the installation conditions make it necessary, alternative shapes are available (trapezium, oval-conical filters etc). An example for optimum use of installation space is the MANN-FILTER air filter with stepped bellows. The stepped arrangement increases the filter surface considerably and improves the filter capacity. The air filter with a hole for bracing a hood and housing also demonstrates MANN+HUMMEL's ingenious techniques: There are two air filter elements in each vehicle. The fixing mandrel for the cover hood goes through the element.

MANN-FILTER offers a huge range of products, with hundreds of shapes and sizes. All of them are of the same high quality.

SECONDARY ELEMENTS
optimum engine reliability

  Standard Feature and benefits

The high-quality MANN-FILTER secondary elements for air filters offer all-round protection from wear. This is even maintained when the main filter element is damaged or not effective due to a maintenance error. The additional protection is required particularly under extremely dusty conditions.

MANN-FILTER secondary elements are therefore included as standard in many agricultural machines and construction vehicles.

PARTICLE FILTERS
maximum possible filtration performance in the smallest space

  Standard Feature and benefits
The particle filter keeps dust and particles such as pollen, diesel soot or tyre dust away from the interior of the vehicle. It is important to obtain the maximum possible filtration performance in the space available. With MANN-FILTER, that goes without saying. Through the special pleating technique, the actual filtration area is increased without having to change the size of the filter. Laboratory tests confirm that up to 95% of dust particles and pollen are almost completely retained.

MANN-FILTER adsotop® combi-filter
the specialized activated charcoal filter

  Standard Feature and benefits
The MANN-FILTER adsotop® combi-filter has an additional function, compared with the particle filter. The activated charcoal layer embedded in the nonwoven adsorbs, like asponge, harmful gases such as nitrogen dioxide, fuels and ozone into pores which are 10,000 times finer than a human hair. That is how the combi-filter ensures a healthy cabin environment. This modern filter consists of a nonwoven-based particle filter media, an activated charcoal layer and a carrier media to improve stability.

  COOLING WATER FILTERS
for an engine that keeps its cool even in the heat

Standard Feature and benefits

To prevent the engine from getting too hot the cooling water has the job of conducting away the heat generated by its operation, both in conditions of extreme winter cold and in the full heat of summer.

If the cooling system is to work reliably the fine channels in the engine block must be kept free of any accumulation of contaminant. This is where MANN-FILTER cooling water filters show their capability. They filter the suspended particles out so that only clean cooling water flows through the capillaries in the engine. This guarantees the best cooling of the engine.

The advantages of the PreLine® pre-filter system are:

  • stable, perfect water separation
  • high function integration
  • high dynamic rigidity
  • efficient heating in the feed tube

  MANN-FILTER transmission oil filters
innovative solutions to meet complex requirements

Standard Feature and benefits

Engine speed is converted into road speed in a controlled way by the transmission. As modern transmissions are required to process greater torque, operate smoothly and function more reliably, they are more demanding with regard to oil purity. Transmission fluid filters must therefore meet  exacting standards. MANN-FILTER transmission filters offer individual state-of-the-art solutions to meet the complex requirements of widely differing transmission concepts.

Basically, two types of transmission oil filters are available - suction and pressure filters.

Suction filters are used in automatic transmissions, and are fitted as compact flatbed filters located in the sump of the transmission. The oil is sucked through the filter by the oil pump being cleansed during this process. MANN-FILTER transmission filters offer optimum protection against engine wear by employing modern, efficient filter media in a compact design. Adapted to meet the specific requirements, taking into account for example installation space, oil purity and low differential pressures, the optimum filter medium is selected, in filter bag or pleated form.

Pressure filters are used to complement suction filters in innovative concepts such as CVT or twin-clutch gearboxes and in manual transmissions where a higher standard of oil purity is required. MANN-FILTER transmission oil filters contain innovative, very fine filter media which provides optimum oil purity and thus maximum protection against wear of the sensitive gearbox components. MANN-FILTER transmission filters for use on the pressurised side of the oil circuit are available as filter elements or as spin-on filters which are screwed on to the transmission.

  Centrifuge rotors

Standard Feature and benefits

Some of the soot particles formed as a by-product of combustion get past the piston rings and penetrate into the crankcase, where they are absorbed into the lubricating oil. Modern lubricating oils contain additives which retain the soot particles in suspension, thus preventing sludge formation in the engine. However, as the concentration of soot increases, the oil becomes more viscous, which reduces its lubricating capacity. Furthermore, the soot particles essentially consist of carbon – they are therefore very hard and accelerate wear considerably. As a result, to minimise engine wear, the concentration of soot particles in the lubricating oil must be kept as low as possible.

Full-flow filtration cannot be carried out, due on the one hand to the risk of blocking of the filter, and on the other hand due to the impractical effort of filtering out the small soot particles (1 µm). The solution lies in the bypass filtration process, in which a portion of the lubricating oil is filtered separately to a high standard. One of the most effective processes in bypass filtration is to clean the oil through centrifuging.

The residual oil content at nominal flow rate and at 7 bar (0.7 MPa) operating pressure is approximately 1 to 3 mg/m3 (1 to 3 ppm).
  • Service life
The rise in flow resistance and thus service life primarily depend on the cleanness of the oil and the quality of the air
filter. A service life of several thousand hours can be achieved with a well-functioning system.
  • Fitting advice
Standard Wrap Elements are available in a variety of sizes. They will only function properly when there is no leakage between the wet and the dry sides. Air should be guided in such a way as to prevent the air oil stream impacting
directly on the surface of the filter element.
  • Design and function
This product is suitable for flow from the outsi de to the inside. It can be used for the entire range of current versions of screw-type and sliding vane compressors.
The standard wrap elements are particularly insensitive to design variations and achieve optimal results with regard to separation efficiency and service life.
